Inspirational Story

‘When I walked into my first class as a new teacher, I could not have been less prepared to deal with the harsh realities of the lives of my students or the way the outside world would crash into my classroom’ (Gruwell, 2006).

Freedom writers, created in 2007, took place in 1994-1996, is about the core events at Woodrow Wilson High School in Long Beach.

The film is about a woman who decides to teach high school students. She didn’t expect troubled students, their severe realities, or lack of motivation towards studying. But, Erin Gruwell was there to stay, because she believed in them even if they couldn’t believe in themselves. She gave these children courage and hope to learn and become something in their lives.

Hero

If you have a story to tell, share it. We may not have experienced it but we can certainly learn from it.

Documentaries are often based on facts, similar to true stories, things that have happened in reality. The ordeal is to go to the lengths of seizing those unique moments together into a script/ film. In comparison, it is vital to address the facts and moments so that the audience feels and grasps the full effect of what took place in reality.

For example, there was a film created in 1985 named ‘Children of the Night’. This movie is a drama based on facts. The movie did not illustrate the brutality of the situation but enough was shown to portray an issue.

‘Children of the Night’ is played by the role of Lois Lee, a woman known today for rescuing children from prostitution (http://www.childrenofthenight.org/). The film reveals her journey and struggles in saving innocent children’s lives, and understanding the love and support these children truly need.

Lois Lee started helping teen prostitutes as she was studying sociology. She helped them so that she could have a good subjective analysis for her final thesis, but also because she had a nurturing instinct to give them something more.

She went out undercover at peak time (night) for these young women, some 14 years of age, others younger. She gave them a home. She was doing this illegally without the authority on her side, she fought for the rights of others. Some of the girls she could not save, as they were soon killed, drugged badly, beaten… some wanted to be prostitutes, they knew what they were doing, hence they enjoyed it? Lois Lee said no, she disagreed with accusations.

Lois Lee said, these children on the streets have been neglected, abandoned, they live on drugs and have an everyday pattern… 14 year olds…do they really know what they are doing? Everyone needs one thing in life and that’s love.

After her graduation Lois Lee brought these children to attention by using the media, and now offers shelter for anyone in need (this is in America). It’s an amazing story, because she is a hero for these people.

So if you have something grand to express, media, film, is always never a bad idea.

Realities

When you think you’ve found the man of your dreams, you trust him with your entire heart and soul. Never in the world would you imagine a cruel deception. There are a million victims in the world who have been exposed to violence, people who have had their hearts broken, people almost driven to death, and those who have suffered scars and bruises. The hardest part is recovering from such damage…

Sophie Hayes (29), spoke on This Morning (ITV, 2012). She is the first British woman to be sex trafficked out of the UK after her so-called best friend beat her to the brink of death, threatened to kill her family and forced her to sleep with up to 30 men a night (This Morning, 2012).

He told her he loved her.

He told her if she loved him, she would do this for him.

He abused her, made her feel small, little, threatened her, threatened to cut her hair, threw her cooking on the ground and made her use her hair to clean up the mess… these are the few things she mentioned in the interview.

She is a survivor!

Documentary

To capture something real, that emotionally connects with the audience; an original story, about an experience. A documentary, that builds to a pinnacle point of blustering emotions. If you have a story to tell, share it with the world, so that we can be inspired.

Aryton Senna (1960 – 1994), died a tragic death who was killed in a car crash. He was a Brazilian Champion of motor racing. He will always be known and remembered as one of the greatest formula one drivers…

The Test of Love

The True Story of Kim and Krickitt Carpenter

Kim Carpenter had to fall in love once again after a coma erased all memory of his wife in a serious car accident.

Less than ten weeks after their wedding (1992), their vows were put to the ultimate test. As they drove to visit Krickitt’s parents for Thanksgiving, Krickitt swerved to miss a slow-moving vehicle but was broadsided by a truck. Their car flipped twice before landing upside down. Kim suffered a broken rib and contusions to his heart and lungs, a concussion, and a broken hand. But the car’s roof collapsed around Krickitt and fractured her skull. She hung upside down for 70 minutes before rescuers were able to free her. The doctors doubted she would survive.

The next day the swelling in her brain started to subside, and her dangerously low blood pressure began to rise. Within ten days she was off life support but remained in a coma. As Krickitt awoke 21 days later, Kim soon discovered that she would never be the same.

The trauma to her brain caused retrograde and posttraumatic amnesia–erasing from her memory virtually all of the two years surrounding the accident. Kim was heartbroken the day he heard his wife say she wasn’t married. She had no memory of her husband either in her head or in her heart.

(Kim Carpenter: http://www.vietchristian.com/gospel/greaterlove.asp)

Today they are survivors as they are still together, and happily re-married in 1996; “Only one thing can surpass forever the painful events we have felt. That is the love I have for you,” Kim promised.

In memory of this accident a Hollywood movie was made and released in cinema on Valentine’s Day, named The Vow (2012). Have a look at the trailer below.

Barbican -Complicite / Simon McBurney.

If you ever read Master and Margarita, you will never forget its spell, it changes imagination and literary conventions. Reading that book is like screening a film in your hear, yet no cinema adaptation I know gave it justice.  Theatre is even more restrictive, you cannot have flying witches, Satan’s parties, and talking cats there so easily. So I am very curious about this adaptations and I am going to be there! A review will follow.
